Now

 Updated March 2026

Feeling the growth and unfurling courage associated with my renewed daily morning page practice. February saw shifts in messaging and reality. Our country is at war, more are suffering.

Currently writing:

  • (Still…) An abecedarian essay about long-term therapy, and why even those who’ve got it good might need it. Working title, which I’m not thrilled with: Mental Order. (My goal is to finish a first or even second draft this month.)
  • A chapbook! Poems. Selfhood. Motherhood. Spousing. Staying. Surviving. Loving. Want, wistfulness, your child’s wet face in your lap, your child’s tears pooling on your thighs while you gaze at the moon, wonder about boys you used to make out with and hope they are doing okay.

Reading:

  • Stone Yard Devotional by Charlotte Wood (2024 Booker shortlist)
  • The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See (Kate Baer rec)
  • Us by Terrence Real (Courtney Martin rec)
  • Queen of America by Luis Alberto Urrea (sequel to The Hummingbird’s Daughter, on my list of Top 10 Novels of All Time) (savoring this one)
  • Poems: Latitude by Natasha Rao; Only by Rececca Foust
  • March craft book: The Artist’s Way (again; cont’d)
  • Finished in February: Raising a Rare Girl by Heather Lanier (audio version is excellent, everyone should read this); Spent by Alison Bechdel (OMG so good and sad and funny – I love all the aging progressive missing-the-mark woke jokes); Everyone Who is Gone Is Here by Jonathan Blitzer
  • Not finished in February because the library needed it back: These Truths by Jill Lepore. I’m going to buy three copies and read it with my high schoolers this summer.

Community:

  • Wrapping up “Write Where You Are” workshop through MPS Community Ed
  • Weekly writing group via Zoom, monthly in-person with Rox
  • Developing curriculum for working collectively through The Artist’s Way (see flyer below)

Trying:

Trying to pay attention. To embody resilience. To consume less sugar. To notice slant without scoffing. To get at least 7 hours of sleep each night.
